Asher Turns 21 and Responds to Kanye

Asher has been having a lot of fun lately promoting Fame! Here are some updates from around the web on what’s been going on with him.

On his birthday: Life is so good!!! Had the best birthday have not even thrown the party yet!! Ha on my way to ok. Then be back on mon. Vfactory holla! Via Twitter. (P.S. Since a lot of you have been asking, Asher was born on 18 September, 1988)

On his reaction to Kayne West interrupting Taylor Swift: “I was shocked – I didn’t know what he was going to do! And, of course, in my mind, I thought Beyonce should’ve won the video, but I think he way he did it was very disrespectful and she deserved more than that – this is her time to shine. She’s so young, sweet, her music’s great. I think his apology was genuine and he needed to do something like that, but things happen, so…right, exactly [she had won video of the year] – she wins so many awards and I just wanted her to shine ’cause she really deserved it. It’s all good. In the end, she took it the right way.” Via JustJared Jr

New Myspace Page and Press!

So much Asher news!

First of all, Asher has a new Myspace design! Have you seen it yet? If not, go check it out and leave a comment: http://bit.ly/TpwHQ!

He also sat down with Artist Direct on Tuesday and talked about V Factory’s forthcoming debut album, how his role in Fame felt close to home, and the ultimate balancing act of it all.   Here’s what Asher had to say about the upcoming single”

Our latest single features Naturi Naughton who I play opposite of in Fame. She’s the main girl in it, and she has a killer voice so we had her do something on our track “Get Up,” and it sounds incredible. We’re excited! We’re about to put that track out too. We worked together on the movie and we really clicked. Obviously, we both sing in the movie. It was just one of those things. Our A&R guy actually came up with the idea. He said, “Asher, what would you think of Naturi sang on a track?” I was like, “That’s a really good idea.” I told her about it, and she loved it. She got in the studio as soon as she could, and she did amazing.

There is also another exclusive interview with Asher on Jsyk.com.   Here is an interesting quote from that interview:

I think what’s good about our movie is that it’s different from High School Musical in a sense that it’s not [just] kids walking down the hall, singing — it’s not an instant thing. I think what our movie really capitalizes on is the work ethic that’s involved and what kids actually have to go through to be in the performing arts and to be in this business. It shows the fact that you might get turned down and you might not do well in an audition, but it gives you hope to do better and gives you the outcome of what we all go through. We all just strive to do better and work hard, so I think there’s definitely more of what artists really truly go through. I think it will inspire kids to be like, “Oh my gosh, I can do the same thing!”

Asher In Okay Magazine!

Asher was interviewed by “Okay” magazine. They had some nice things to say about Asher. Like: “Move over, Zac Efron! There’s a new musical star stealing high schoolers’ hearts! Here’s what Asher had to say:

His description of V Factory: “There are five of us. Five guys. It’s pop and R&B with an urban influence. We’re traveling right now because our single, “Love Struck,” just came out. Our album drops this summer.

On how his art school experience informed his role in Fame: “When I went to middle school, I went to PPAS (Professional Perfomring Arts School) in New York. I was there with a lot of up-and-coming celebrities – Shia LaBeouf, Scarlet Johansson, Mischa Barton, – all those people. We all got to experience what Fame was like – it was dead-on the same thing.

On romances on set: “There were some interests, let’s put it that way. I loved everybody, but nothing like that, no.”

Go check out the July issue for more information!
